About Us

Music and Movement Summer Camp was born in 2013 when educators Lindsay Powers and Dillon Sturtevant teamed up to create the kind of summer camp they would have wanted to go to themselves as children. What they dreamed up became a program that not only had kids excited but had many friends and parents wishing they could attend as well!

The Music and Movement program blends physical activities like dance, martial arts, and games with musician study involving stories, videos, books, and art.  Our weekly theme/inspiration guides us towards our Friday performance of a choreographed movement piece and a musical performance.  During all of the weeks, campers will get to try out different instruments, choreograph their own dance moves, and learn about the history and work of a famous musician/band or musical theme.

Our music workshops and performance are based around a weekly musical inspiration.  Over the past six summers, Music and Movement has offered weeks focused on David Bowie, The Beatles, Queen, Michael Jackson, Elton John, Carole King, Elvis, Aretha Franklin, Adele, The Wizard of Oz, Nirvana, and more. You can check out our upcoming themes for Summer 2018 on our Programs page!

A typical day at Music and Movement will include a movement class, music class, musician workshop, a trip to Volunteer Park, and outside games.  We walk to Volunteer Park daily and the campers have the option of going in the wading pool.

Music and Movement accepts campers entering Kindergarten up through Fifth Grade.  We accept up to 20 kids each week.  Campers can expect to be active mentally and physically.  A typical day consists of arts and crafts, musician study, outdoor games, dancing, singing, and even learning to play a new instrument. At the end of each week on Fridays there will be a special live performance for parents and friends at 2:00, where campers get to show off what they've been working on all week long.  You won't want to miss those!
